Part Number: POAS

Simple, Dependable Power Failure Notification

The POAS continuously monitors the electrical power supplying a refrigerator, freezer, battery backup system, or other critical device. When utility power is interrupted, the system places automated telephone calls to the programmed contacts.

Up to four telephone numbers can be entered directly into the unit. This allows facilities to notify the personnel responsible for protecting refrigerated inventory, investigating the outage, or implementing an emergency response plan.

The alarm may be acknowledged locally at the device or remotely during the telephone call.

A Practical Choice for Facilities With a Telephone Line

The POAS is well suited for facilities that want direct phone-call notification and already maintain a compatible analog telephone connection.

Because contact information is programmed on-site, the system does not depend on staff accessing an online dashboard to configure basic alerts. Once installed and programmed, it provides a focused way to notify personnel when power to protected equipment has been interrupted.

The POAS may be appropriate for:

  • Pharmacies
  • Medical practices
  • Clinics
  • Laboratories
  • Veterinary facilities
  • Blood and tissue storage areas
  • Research facilities
  • Remote or lightly staffed locations

Optional Temperature Monitoring

Power failure monitoring is included with the POAS. One additional compatible sensor may also be connected to expand the system’s monitoring capabilities.

An optional temperature probe can provide an added warning when conditions inside a refrigerator or freezer move outside the programmed range. This can help personnel identify temperature problems caused by equipment malfunction, an open door, or an outage that extends beyond the available battery runtime.

Sensor selection should be based on the equipment, operating temperature, and environmental condition being monitored.

How the POAS Works

1. Monitor : The POAS continuously supervises the incoming power supply and any connected optional sensor.

2. Detect : When the system identifies a power failure or another programmed alarm condition, it begins the notification process.

3. Call : The system calls the programmed telephone contacts in sequence.

4. Acknowledge : An authorized person can acknowledge the alarm by telephone or directly at the monitoring unit.

5. Respond : Staff can investigate the outage, check the affected refrigerator or freezer, and implement the facility’s response procedures.

Cellular Monitoring and Battery Backup Protection

A battery backup system and a power outage alarm perform two different but complementary functions.

The battery backup supplies temporary power to help keep the refrigerator or freezer operating. The POAS informs personnel that utility power has failed so they can evaluate the situation before the available battery runtime is exhausted.

Used together, these systems provide both emergency power and direct notification during an outage.

Configure a POAS for Your Facility

The appropriate monitoring configuration depends on the equipment being protected, the availability of a compatible telephone line, and whether temperature monitoring is also required.
